The Powering Indiana: Lake County is a subsidiary of Powering America and consists of craftsmen of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and their signatory contractors—including those who are members of the National Electrical Contractors Association, supported by the electrical training ALLIANCE.
For anyone looking to enter the electrical industry, the Powering America team–through the electrical training ALLIANCE–offers one of the largest apprenticeship and training programs in the United States, training more than 350,000 apprentices to journeyman status since 1941. In addition to hands-on training, the ALLIANCE offers coursework that closely parallels a traditional college curriculum. A variety of educational institutions allow apprentices to gain college credit for completion of electrical training ALLIANCE courses, including the recognition and transfer of these credits toward two- and four-year degrees.

IBEW LOCAL 697
IBEW Local 697 is headquartered in Merrillville, Indiana and currently represents over 1,300 professional electricians in Lake and Newton counties in Indiana. Its jurisdiction covers Communications, Electric Signs, Inside, Maintenance and Sign Erectors who work in the communities the union serves.
NECA | NORTHERN INDIANA
The National Electrical Contractors Association is the national trade association for electrical contracting firms. United for industry-wide action, NECA has been the traditional champion of the electrical contracting industry since 1901. The Northern Indiana Chapter of NECA works alongside three Local IBEW Unions.
JATC | TRAINING CENTER
The Lake County Electrician's JATC is a five-year program that provides a path for individuals to become a journeyman wireman with the IBEW, working for our valued contractor partners who are affiliated with the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). They offer excellent wages, health insurance, pensions and an annuity.
